Livelihood
Atma Nirbhar – Ek Challenge:
Atma Nirbhar is a noble initiative that provides economic rehabilitation to very poor physically and mentally challenged adults. The organization offers opportunities to such individuals to work with dignity and earn a living. By running a facility for blending and packaging, the organization not only provides employment to the beneficiaries but also offers a range of tea and spices under their own brand Navjeevan, along with packaging tea and groceries for various retailers. In this process and in solidarity with the cause the SCKC Trust has been associated with the ANEC since the year 2021 and has been supporting the organization’s operational expenses.
The organization is currently providing livelihood to around 45 persons with disabilities and is committed to building a world where differently-abled individuals get an equal opportunity to participate in work and live with dignity. Along with a monthly stipend, the beneficiaries also receive a wholesome midday meal and are enrolled in the Government’s PF and ESIC schemes.
By empowering the differently-abled through livelihood, Atma Nirbhar – Ek Challenge is making a positive impact in society and creating a more inclusive world. Their efforts serve as an inspiration to others to promote equality and provide opportunities to marginalized communities.
RASHTRIYA GRAMEEN VIKAS NIDHI (RGVN):
The RGVN is a non-governmental organization that has been working to improve the quality of life of the poor and underprivileged in rural areas for the past 30 years. One of its core areas of intervention is promoting sustainable livelihoods through agri and allied activities. The Trust supports and assists RGVN’s schemes and work for economic upliftment of poor women in the handloom and development sectors.
In 2017, RGVN launched a pilot project in Assam’s Darrang district to train weavers in weaving techniques and product design. This led to the creation of GrassLooms, an exclusive handloom platform under the Brahmaputra Community Development Trust. GrassLooms aims to train poor rural women artisans, market their products globally, and provide sustainable livelihoods, gaining popularity among handloom enthusiasts in the region. The Trust collaborated with RGVN in 2021 to support weavers from the Sikarhati village of Kamrup (Rural) district under their GrassLooms project providing monetary aid to renovate and upgrade looms, provide training for the weavers and contribute towards the working capital of the project. In the year 2022, the Trust collaborated with RGVN to work on a different project in the Morigaon district on developing an Eri Cluster in the district. This particular project will provide poor rural women from the selected villages of the Mayong division on rearing eri silk worm, spinning yarn from the cocoons, naturally dying the yarn and weaving. The aim of this work is to support the women in working for a sustainable livelihood for themselves and earn a decent living.
