Mr. Ronal Ekka, a committed social worker and founder of the St. Mary’s English School started the school in 2022 with the goal of providing quality education to the children of his village and the neighbouring villages of Dholmara. Despite the dilapidated temporary shed of the school, the students were highly motivated by a very dedicated group of teachers. The parents and community in general played a hands-on role in the functioning of the school. A partially built structure stood on a plot of land donated by Mr. Ekka. The Trust decided to expand and complete the construction of the school building comprising 8 classrooms, library, computer room, teachers’ staffroom , principal’s office and a separate toilet unit comprising 4 toilets, 2 each for boys and girls. The roof-truss was made of iron and covered with high-quality Dynaroof roofing sheets for longer durability. The school is equipped with 24-hours supply of water and electricity. The new school building was inaugurated on 11th May 2024.
The school was established on 2nd February 2022 and is being run by the School Management Committee along with the active support and participation of the Family Groups in the Chiringgro village located about 15-kilometers away from Williamnagar. The school is located in an interior area on difficult terrain with poor accessibility. The temporary school structure was established by the school management committee with the support of Purvanchal Pragati Samaj guided by Father Valerian Castelino. With an enrollment of 76 students during its inception the school has now 303 students from class Nursery to class-2, with 5 teachers. The Trust decided to accept the proposal to support the infrastructure development of the school building by financing a semi-permanent structure post a visit by the SCKCT Team which considered the request to be very genuine and well deserving. Post construction, the very visible and heartening impact seen on all the stakeholders of the school, the Trust further decided to provide the required electrical materials for the electrification in the newly constructed school. The Trust also decided to financially support a number of students with a one-time scholarship and also finance the leveling of a playground for sports and other activities.

The students are given free board and lodging, with uniforms, books, and teaching aids. The school has 31 teaching and non-teaching staff and teaches from Class I to Class X, with all recent results being straight First Divisions. The school converted to an English medium school four years ago. ASHA DARSHAN:
Asha Darshan is a charitable trust founded in 2001, focuses on improving the living conditions of marginalized communities in the under-developed Baksa District in Assam, remotely located close to the border with Bhutan. Asha Darshan manages over 19 schools for 2000+ underprivileged students in the remote areas of the region. Trained teachers provide education from pre-primary to class X, along with mid-day meals. SCKC Trust collaborates with Asha Darshan to provide infrastructure support to their grassroots development efforts by establishing primary and ME schools in underserved areas where there are no Government schools.
The First collaborative project resulted in the construction of a complete school complex in Satyanarayanpur with a modern toilet, kitchen and a dining hall for the children which was completed in the year 2022. The second project for construction of the school in Nagapur, located near the international Indo-Bhutan border which is about 2kms away from the school premises. This particular school will benefit approximately 200 children residing in the neighbouring villages who otherwise would have been deprived of proper education as the area is separated from the mainland by a river which gets heavily flooded by the monsoon rains especially in Bhutan.
The SCKC Trust supports the Community Library cum Learning Centre initiative through which NEET aims to provide academic support through a positive learning and motivating environment to children attending Government schools from economically weak sections who lack home support . The children who benefit from this overcome disabling circumstances and tend to do well without dropping out of school which is the depressing norm.
The library is stocked with age-appropriate literature, activity kits, art and craft supplies and computers to facilitate experiential learning methods. Additionally, the centre conducts various workshops and interactive sessions on art, craft, dancing, and singing to promote critical thinking and creative expression among children. The library caters to children between the ages of 6 to 15 years. Regular classes are held on English, Assamese, Maths, and Science through specially designed child-friendly pedagogy, including storytelling, read-aloud, and theatre activities. The library curriculum is curated with a set of contextual books along with a lesson plan centred on each book, and an assessment framework has been developed to assess the program’s impact.
The library aims to create a vibrant learning space and promote a culture of learning and exploration among children from poor marginalized communities which is accessible only to children from well-to-do backgrounds. The SCKC Trust appreciates the vision of NEET and has been financially supporting a section of the operations of the Community Library based in Guwahati since 2022.
